What is DSC (Digital Selective Calling)?
DSC is a global protocol that uses VHF channel 70 (156.525 MHz) to exchange digital messages, including identification number of your boat, the purpose of your call and your location. The messages will be transmitted to all DSC-equipped vessels and onshore stations within range(typically 30-50 nm from a coast station and dependant on own ship antenna height). Distress messages will be automatically repeated every four minutes till they are acknowledged.
